Ramaz Klimiashvili : McCain did not arrive in Georgia for the good

For the last few days governmental TV channels (i.e. almost all of them) have been reporting with self-confidence and happy faces about Senator John McCain’s two-day visit (can you imagine?) to Georgia. Although only a few people know that this 74-year old man is an ordinary oppositionist (called a member of minority in the United States) and is distinguished in Senate only by desperately scolding Barack Obama!  And why? Hope, at least some of you remember that McCain was a presidential candidate a year ago and he was unexpectedly defeated by that young black colored man, who is known for his liberal and a little bit left-wing considerations. While in American politics McCain together with Senator Lugar, Dick Cheney - Bush’s Vice-President and some others are representing the most aggressive right-wingers, also called neocons (neoconservatives).
    The most interesting is how McCain wanted to become a President at our expense.  The first – the Western press mentions unanimously that Saakashvili would not have dared to initiate such a high level adventure while US State Department was openly opposing this. This was said by Condoliza Rise before deserting her post, while Mathew Briza flew to Moscow during the war and apologized Russian people on the air of “Echo of Moscow”; “I have been stopping this … (crazy  man) (how trustful was his announcement – this is from another opera). It is obvious that Saakashvili would not have gone against his partners.  So, who encouraged him? Supposedly, such persons could be only his mentor McCain (who discovered him and carved out his career) or John’s friend and accomplice Vice-President Dick Cheney.
Saakashvili’s phone conversation with neocons would not have taken place before the war, Russian would have intercepted it. One more detail marks out here - four days before the war Saakashvili flew to Italy, where he did not hold any official meeting. And this is when, in his words, Georgian villages were bombed. The day following his arrival from Italy, Saakashvili started to bomb Tskhinvali. Who did he meet it Italy and who encouraged him?
When Russian tanks made their way towards Tbilisi and authorities escaped from Tbilisi, the presidential candidate McCain said these words: “I am Georgian!” This sounded very effectively, although a serious analysis may lead us to a completely different conclusion. While awarding McCain in Batumi Saakashvili announced that McCain and his wife left election campaign and arrived to Georgia. Obviously, there is a case of the whole Georgia’s collective sclerosis, since no one saw him here and had he arrived, this would have been effective step of his election campaign. Later Georgian TV channels made such interpretation – McCain left election campaign and supported Georgia on all American TV channels.  This is really PR aimed at illiterates, otherwise appearance on “all TV Channels” is nothing else than an effective election campaign.   
Afterwards, Saakashvili decorated McChain with ''National Hero of Georgia'' order (medal?) supposedly for stopping Russian tanks. What the end!
With this respect let’s note at first sight astonishing announcement, which was later made by the President of France, the then Chairman of European Union Nikola Sarkozy : When I was getting ready to fly to Moscow to meet with the President Medvedev, the President Bush called me and asked – Don’t get involved, let Russians take Tbilisi!!!”. 
Why did our “caretaker” George Bush Jr. doom us so much? Let’s analyze and we will get a quite cynical picture. It is known that Senator McCain’s policy always and especially during the election campaign was maximum confrontation with Russia and restoration of the Cold War, while Senator Obama supported and still supports partnership with Russia and ‘reset” of relations.  Thus, entrance of Russian tanks would have been ace-trump right for republicans – John McCain would have definitely won elections and become the President of the United States, while the other neocon – Dick Cheney would have received the post of Secretary of State, instead of retiring! 
Leaders of the European Union got scared of such possibility, while obviously no one was interested in the fate of Georgia: Sarkozy flew to Russia, Berluskoni and Angela Merkel started to call Putin and explain what neocons’ victory would bring not only to the whole Europe, but to Russia as well in the form of a new Cold War, when billions should be spent again only on armament. Exactly the similar processes broke the backbone of the Soviet Union. Therefore, Russian tanks stopped near Igoeti and then turned back. Here is one important fact – neither Sarkozy nor other leaders of the European Union would have convinced Putin and Medvedev to change their mind with regard to taking Tbilisi, unless Saakashvili had signed for complete capitulation on August 10! Thus, McCain’s presidency was prevented by Mikheil Saakshvili, his favorite apprentice! 
McCain’s speech in Batumi was also quite interesting. He spoke about close relations between “two leaders” – Misha and himself. It is interesting, why elder, but still influential oppositionist called himself a leader.  It is even more interesting, how representatives of the opposition who came to the meeting with him talked about “danger coming from Russia” with the Senator hating Russian. It is the same as to visit the Pope and start explaining what the significance of, say, Christmas is. Mass media assessed his visit almost equal to Bush’s arrival, although, even Bush’s visit is considered a shame of Georgia by many, since in all other countries raw eggs and tomatoes, not to mention “boots”, were thrown at him. 
The announcement made at Batumi airport right after McCain’s arrival was especially cynical. He stated about his support for territorial integrity of Georgia and its complete de-occupation. We can not prove now that he may unconscientiously (or conscientiously) contributed to infringement of territorial integrity of Georgia, only logic is on our side. But he did not say a word about how he plans to restore country’s integrity, i.e. de-occupy (the favorite propagandistic term of our authority) the country, since this belongs more to the mythical sphere. 
It is fine, if this was only a celebration of provincial politicians, but may be the case is somewhat different? Let’s review easier option and imagine that this was made by Saakashvili embittered on Obama, to spite the man, who even does not want to hear a name of this man, but why would McCain have got involved in this game with the person, who made him lose the presidency?
The question is as follows: Is there a chance that McCain somehow revenges upon Obama? Yes, there is a chance and even more – only in Georgia and only by Saakashvili’s hand! Let’s remember Misha’s New Year speech made with guardsmen, when he made a slip in speaking by saying that machine guns shall be provided to Tbilisi population, ditches shall be prepared at every building!  On the day of McCain’s arrival some Russian military was shown on TV saying that some new provocations are being prepared against Georgia. In fact, we all know who the master of provocations is! Thus, it is quite obvious, that McCain did not arrive to Georgia for good. If a new war starts and Russians enter Tbilisi, and we supposedly protect ourselves with machine guns provided by Saakashvili (On August 10, before his escape, Bakradze was offering us knives and forks), then you will see how much noise McCain will make in Senate, saying that this happened because of Obama’s policy, look how weak he is, he wants good relations with Russia and it is time now to initiate a presidential impeachment! He (McCain) does not think about anything else! And “Georgian” McCain is not really interested in what is in store for us!  It is more important for him to implement his political objectives and we are only pawns for him on a big American chess-board.
That is why it is necessary to assess critically this visit and if the analysis gives us a basis for anxiety, we shall repeat again – every day of Saakashvili’s ruling over Georgia may be fatal for future of the country.
